Ed founded Mychal's Learning Place (MLP) and opened our doors in 2002 to honor the memory of his daughter Mychal who passed away at 7 years of age. When she was here, there weren't any programs that would have been able to provide her with the care she needed. What started as an after school program expanded by adding an adult program with a focus on independent living skills, job training and employment. Looking to address the 85% unemployment rate for individuals with Developmental Disabilities he started our first social enterprise.
Ed opened Mychal's Bakery and Catering with barista service. The next venture was Mychal's Prints and Embroidery, a direct to garment printing and embroidery business working with corporate partners in our community. His next venture is Mychal's Cafe in Redondo Beach that is going to be opening their doors in March 2024. These ventures are providing much needed real life on the job training and employment, creating much needed awareness about the abilities of individuals with disabilities. All of these ventures are scalable and can benefit any community with a need.
